Custom CNC Turn-Mill Machined Hastelloy C276 Corrosion-Resistant Components for Offshore Oil & Gas Monitoring Sensors
Project Background
A European oilfield equipment OEM needed custom alloy parts for subsea monitoring sensors deployed in offshore marine environments. The parts must withstand long-term exposure to seawater, chloride ions and acidic corrosive media, while maintaining tight dimensional stability under variable temperature and pressure. Ordinary stainless steel could not meet the anti-corrosion requirement, so Hastelloy C276 was selected as the raw material.
Client Challenges
- Hastelloy C276 is a hard-to-machine superalloy, prone to tool wear, built-up edge and surface scratches during cutting.
- Strict dimensional tolerance and surface finish requirement to guarantee sealing performance of underwater sensors.
- Complex combined structure with turned outer diameter, milled flat surfaces and threaded holes, requiring turn-mill composite processing.
- 100% dimensional inspection and material traceability certificate required for offshore industry compliance.
Our Solution
- Material selection: Adopted Hastelloy C276 nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy, outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice and chemical corrosion.
- Machining process: Applied CNC turn-mill combined machining, optimized cutting speed, coolant and special carbide tooling to reduce tool abrasion and avoid surface defects.
- Quality control: Conducted CMM dimensional measurement, surface roughness test and material PMI verification for each batch.
- Post-treatment: Deburr and passivation treatment to further improve corrosion resistance and surface integrity.

Project Results
- All components passed third-party material inspection and dimensional verification.
- Successfully operated in offshore corrosive seawater environment with long service life.
- Batch delivery achieved stable repeatability, helped the client shorten prototype-to-mass production cycle.
